Inspiration for Gumball rally-er

This 1976 vid is reportedly what inspired Alex Roy to attempt to beat the Trans-USA trip time of 31 hours and four minutes in a car. He apparently did beat the "gumball rally" style record by about an hour - from New York to santa Monica.
