I started riding at 33- I want to get my kids riding, though, they are 9 and 11. There's something to be said for experience.

You don't need a smaller bike, just please be careful on what you have. Wear your gear and pay attention to others around you- remember -

250 isnt necessarily mandatory, you just cant ride with your right wrist on the bike you have. understand the bike is fast, and respect the power, and you can learn on anything.

the biggest problem I see w riding such a fast bike (or a bike in general) on the road at 16 is that you may not have enough experience on the road, in a car or bike, to properly read traffic and other drivers. Be careful!

I was 22 when I started on an 850. I told myself, it won't go any faster than I make it.(I only wrecked that bike twice.)

If you ride with your head and not your testicles you'll be ok.

Nice paint job BTW.

Started at 11 on a Kawasaki 80 dirt bike, started on the street at 17. I have 25 years on two wheels.

Kicked a cinder block left in a turn at 28, ouch. Had my first street accident at 29 on FM 3090. Had my second on Main street at age 31. All three were due to my inattention 500 feet before. One was due to a new rider crossing the double yellow, the other was black oil on the road. In all cases I lowsided, walked away. Experience saved my from serious injury in all three situations. More experience would have prevented all 3.

Wear gear. Ride within your limits. Grow your limits on the track. Ride like you are invisible to traffic.

My 7 year old grand daughter is riding an electric pocket bike. When to start varies, on your motor skills and "want to ride".

I started on a CB 750 at 20, rode a lot of bikes until career and family took priority and I took a 15 yr break..................then I bought a Busa at 46. *Knock on wood* I've only been down on the track, but lots of close calls!
