When the Busa came out in '99, one of the magazines ran 194 or 196 mph. Since then no other bike, including the Busa, has run that fast. That is where it all started, "The legend was born". From a sales and marketing standpoint, Kawasaki screwed up big time when the ZX-12R was introduced in 2000 and fell short of 194/196 mph.

I have ridden both bikes quite a bit and like them both. These are my opinions:

Low end power - Busa
Top end power - ZX12R
Clutch - Busa
Handling - ZX12R
Looks - ZX12R

Back on topic, we are supposed to be talking about the '08 Busa.
It seems that the ZX12R/ZX14 vs Busa1/Busa2 debate will never end.

i will agree with you there... i hate the front of the 14's... but i still think the busa is better than the 12... seems to me to have a more dominating appearance

i was talking on just appearance... 12 over the 14, and busa over the 12

Yeah maybe.... A piped/setup ZX12 will spank a piped/setup busa at the strip....I was right in the thick of that debate circa 2000-2001...When all the highlands boys were out there running 148-149mph on their 12Rs with only a pipe/filter, I had a pipe/box mod/all the usual stuff and I could barely muster 145-146mph, and at that time I was only 160lbs suited... I had to put cams and a good tune in my busa to get around them 12Rs on the big end, I was going 150-151mph then.

I have always said that on a basic street bike with the usual mods and NO INTERNAL ENGINE MODS, a 12R is faster then a busa with the right rider....

12s are just too hard to work on, the engines are brittle and don't respond as well to internal engine mods....(other then maybe a 1270 kit)

I remember reading some of those articles. But in 2000 they also started that volentary limiting of the sportbikes to 186-187 or 300kph however you wanna see it. The 12r wasnt quite as good as the busa and I am a kawasaki fan and would take a 12r over a busa any day but numbers dont lie. The 14r is a awesome bike except for looks and I am very interested to see both bikes line up to eachother. I am happy to see Suzuki did something to update the dated Busa.

I'm buying a 08 ZX-14, and that's all there is to it. My 06 was one of the best bikes I've ever owned, period.
