Track Day Gear

Depending on my schedule, I was thinking of signing up for my very first track day on 9/5.

I wanted to ask the pro racers out here if they recommend renting gear for the first time or just shell out some money to buy gear.

I was thinking of renting since it is my first time. If I like it, which seems that will be the case, I may put some cash towards a good suit and boots.

For the money, what would be good value suit to buy? One or two piece?

Gloves?

Boots?

Thanks for the advice!

Re: Track Day Gear

rent the gear for your first time,, just in case.... you will like it though... then you can buy all your new gear... plenty of cheap buys on gear,, just have to hunt around.. everyone likes diff, gear, so you just have to find what best suits you and what you like the best.. .

Re: Track Day Gear

the season is almost over with, so rent your suit. then you can buy a suit from Motorcycles Unlimited since he sells the suits after each year. they are in very good condition and already broken in.

i suggest buying riding boots for all year riding right:

word,
I wish my suit was already broken in. I had bending my knees enough to get my feet up on my pegs the first time I wore it. Definetly go try on some first to find your size if you decide to buy one of your own.

oh..dint see this thread, was posting up the same thing in ur other thread.
same dilemma here too.. yeah the season s almost over..but there s gonna be some more track days this season, and , there s gonna be another season, and i know this aint gonna be my last anyway!!!
do the prices go down when the season ends? like Motorcycles Unlimited has already got a sale of their rentals going on for what seem like pretty decent prices, and they r surely broken in.....

keeping my ears/eyes open to hear/read what the pros gotta say

Re: Track Day Gear

We typically turn the suits after 4-6 rentals, some less. We've got quite a few we've got for sale right now. If you're interested come by and we can help you get fitted up.
BTW, Knox back protectors are on sale right now for a limited time, regulary $199.95 sale priced @ $159.95, IMO one of the best back protectors you can buy.

:iamwithstupid: knox is great!...

As for the suits just rent one from them for now and you will probably have a blast so when you have the $$ shell it out and get some good gear... prefereably a ONE piece. Don't be a cheap skate and get crappy stuff cuz ultimately it's going on you! Good boots would be a plus.. I recommend the Sidi boots (model just about any is great) There are others of course but I cannot complain about mine.
