What brought/keeps you in TX?

okay, help me pass some time at work here today

I know most of you probably were born and raised here in the great state of Texas and some of you probably haven't even travelled outside of the state in your 20+ year lifetime, but if not....what brought you here?

I was raised here in Houston until freshman year of high school when my family moved up to Chicago....10 years later I found my way back here enjoying the heat and humidity. I Love it here!!! I have NO family within 800 miles which is great!!! We get along so much better now! Can't say I'd like to live anywhere else, except maybe Colorado. I enjoy my close friends here so I think that's what keeps me liking this hot and humid town so much. How about ya'll? Help me pass some time here.....

I've been trying to move to the Bay Area, CA for the last 5 - 6 years, but the cost of living up there keeps me here. :/:

I like the people, the heat, the hunting, the fishing, the ranches, and my immediate family is here. I have to agree, only other state i would consider is Colorado. Much for the same reasons except the heat.

Im from Miami, and I came here back in 2000 when Halliburton offered me a position that I couldnt refuse ($$$$) ... it didnt last very long and then they turminated the position and there I went. I was going to move back to Miami, but right before that I had met this cool girl, so I figured I'd stick around a bit and see what happens ... now we've been married for 4 yrs! And we have talked about moving to Miami, but economically we can't afford it! I bought a 2100 sq ft house here for $142k ... in Miami the same house in an average neiborhood would cost over $350k ... and the jobs pay the same if not less!!! So here I stay!

+1 on ALL that ...ALL of it...

I liked Dallas alot better than Houston for the 3 years I lived there, but all my family is here. And one could argue that Dallas is just the same...I like N. Dallas though...

I have to agree with all of that, but even other cities have sh*tty traffic, crime, and lack of respect.....

I can't tell ya how many times though someone "up north axed me a question" too....that's everywhere. I think the general hospitality that MOST folks have is what I like the most....

Houston really isn't as bad as most think (to me at least). I love it really. For being the 4th largest city in the US, things are still pretty cheap, and the traffic isn't that. And being the 4th largest city in the US, there's a scene for just about everything, music, art, biking, and so on (even if the city isn't known for that scene, or is a small one). And my favorite thing about Houston is the food. Houston has some of the best restaurants around, and they still are affordable.

...and my gf is here.

moved back and forth between here and Omaha, NE while my dad worked for Allied Chemical. (now owned by Honeywell). We settled here when they wanted to transfer him to New Jersey and he said 'no way!".

Been here ever since, now my 9 year old son keeps me here..........I don't want to be too far away from him......

work brought me here.

I do look forward to leaving but I'm making the most of things while here and having a good time. Texas/Houston/Galveston doesn't suit me very well but I keep busy and focus on the positives.

The positives, large and inexpensive house even after taxes. Race tracks everywhere! I have pretty easy job most of the time.

I'm not going to start my about the negatives.
