more specifically the honda blackbird. because in the wild, blackbirds are the peregrine falcon's main food source. very clever marketing by suzuki.

peregrine falcons Not the Suzuki hayabusa

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/5299690.html

This is the article... why post such lies man

Downtown falcons a flight to behold

By DANE SCHILLER
Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle

RESOURCESDiving off downtown's J.P. Morgan Chase Building, the peregrine falcon, with its 3-foot wingspan and hyper-precise vision, is an airborne predator that awes office workers and military pilots alike.

Preferring to soar high above the downtown streets, which carpet the bottom of urban canyons of steel, glass and concrete, the storied birds are now migrating through Houston for the winter.

They share an exclusive slice of the sky with those who work in skyscrapers.

The Chase Building, which was known as the Gulf Building when completed in 1929, along with the more modern El Paso Building, would not seem to have much in common with the wilds of Canada or Alaska.

But for falcons searching for places to stay warm, the city structures are preferred haunts for hunting, flying and diving. They simulate canyon walls and mountain ranges.

The spectacle is nothing like the standard fare of grackles perched on light poles or pigeons pecking at crumbs scattered on sidewalks.

In fact, when falcons dine downtown, their preferred meals are grackles and pigeons, as opposed to water fowl and other birds when in their natural habitats.

They're known to swoop down and carry their prey back up to a ledge to be devoured.

Peregrines are the world's fastest birds. They can tuck their wings and dive at speeds of about 200 mph.

"You can not even believe the speed, the accuracy and the beauty of these birds in flight," said Glenn Olsen, who teaches bird identification for the Houston Audubon Society, as he spent a recent afternoon scanning for falcons from his perch in a law office conference room.

"They are living beings just like we are living beings," he said, "and I think they sometimes just want to have fun."

Falcons seem to be able to hover, swoop and dive almost effortlessly.

During the few months they are in Houston coming through while heading south for the winter or north when returning home in the spring, they are the undisputed sheriffs of the bird world.

The El Paso Corporation, one of the nation's largest natural gas pipeline companies, distributed a newsletter to employees last spring during the birds' migration back through Houston, and reminded them that the company's building plays a vital role for the species.

"They like all those ducts there," said Andy Lopez, an accountant who watched for falcons at the El Paso Building during a lunch break. "They like it around 30 stories."

Debbie MacSorley, who sometimes spends breaks bird-watching from Baker Botts, an international law firm where she works in accounting, said she watched a falcon make a famous high-speed dive, known in the birding world as a stoop.

"It made the hairs on my arms stand up it was awesome," she said. "When there is a pair and they are darting around, sometimes right outside the window, it is like watching a fighter jet."

Inspiring the military
The similarity is not lost on the Air Force, which is using falcons to design small unmanned aircraft to help ground troops in places such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

"They are very agile, they can fly around in gusty environments," Gregg Abate, a scientist at the U.S. Air Force Research Lab in Florida, said of the peregrines. "In a word it is agility; how they do that is what we're trying to understand."

In order to develop the aircraft, which can be carried on a backpack-like harness and be deployed to look around or over buildings, researchers mounted small video cameras on falcons. The idea is to be able to fly in an urban environment and not be susceptible to factors such as wind gusts, cars and branches, Abate said.

Keeping an eye out
And so, falcons continue to amaze mankind, as they have for thousands of years.

Appearances in Houston have been spotty, but will likely increase this month and in December and January.

Houston sightings launch a chain of e-mails among downtown bird fans.

"Falcons are pretty active right now around the old Chase building, you're welcome to come up," one bird-watcher wrote another who works with a lesser view. "There are three flying around."

MacSorley, who has watched peregrines come and go for years, said although it helps, you don't have to work in a skyscraper to enjoy birds.

"If you're downtown, once in a while look up and see what you can see," she said. "People are always downtown walking the sidewalk. Look up."
