Could also be some memory resource issues as well. I don't know. I don't have access to the server.

and FWIW, I fuggin hate the 20 second rule. Why wait 20 seconds between searches if i get no response.

No wonder we have so many lame posts these days, people get tired of the search function and start a new(craptastic) thread instead.

There is this thing called, "spidering" where your forum searches end up connecting this to that. This is what adds to total "load" on the server. Sometimes, when a lot of unregistered n00bs access the search function, it makes a mess of the data and indexing. This is made all the more worse when things such as googlebots or yahoo spiders make use of the search function for there own web indexing.

Yes, I am an admin of another forum

+ sexy :hitit:

The limit on time is to reduce the needless searching that consequentially adds to "load". On my forum, for example, I have it set to 20 seconds.

whaaaa.

It's not a big deal at all. Read a post, hit BACK... read next post on list, hit BACK.... rinse and repeat for a few mins, then if it's bugging you enough to hit "new posts" again, hit it.

It's never been an issue except when I've used actual search, and even then, it's not a huge issue.
