My favorite game on the Vic20 was Text-based. Voodoo Castle. I never did solve it, but I was sooo close. I couldn't get the final clue..

"With knife in hand, take a stand, circle coffin and ..." <-- AND WHAT?! lol

haha, thats right, I remember that. lol, my grandfather stood in line for 3 hours the night that came out, he was at toys'r'us. He was counting the people thinking there was no way there was going to be any left when he got in. Well come to find out there were plenty, while he thought that would be the craze, everyone was actually in line for the cabage patch dolls. lol, no one cared about the vic.

Yeah, we had a cool soccer game but one of the controllers broke and would only go down, up was broken, i still remember that when you missed a tackle, you had to run to the bottom of the screen so that you would re-appear at the top.

I can answer this one. It's about safety. When I was growing up, we were regularly locked outside because my grandma wasn't gonna pay to air condition the whole neighborhood... I don't remember anyone ever telling us not to talk to strangers. I don't remember every being worried that someone else wanted to "Abduct" me. I remember burning my mouth because I would forget to let the hot water run out of the hose before I got a drink. And I remember that I was a teenager when we finally got an Atari and my dad could beat us at all the games.

I got my kids pre-paid phones a couple of years ago. They were 8 and 10. It was so I would feel better when I locked them outside! GO PLAY! Now if they can't find their phone, they can't go play. Before they had to come home every hour and "CHECK-IN" so I knew they were okay. Now, they ride their bikes all over. They roam the "creeks" and watch for snakes, they build stone and stick play houses. Those were my favorite memories and I feel better knowing that if they get a snake bite, or heaven forbid, abducted, they can call. On the flip side, I can always call them and tell them to come home without combing the neighborhood.

Oh, and as for all those TV programs and video games? Who else played Hide and seek with 30 or 40 neighborhood kids until someone screamed for you to come inside and eat or wash?

Who remembers Tag with the same kids and stretching a line of 10 kids long out from home base to help others get SAFE?

Hopscotch, jump rope (not double dutch) and Hula Hoops? Skates with metal wheels?

Yup, I got one for my daughter and just put her on the family plan for about $10 a month. Now I can check on her when she is not in school to know she is safe. I think it is just one of these peace of mind things that worth more than lunch one day a month.
