If she paid using her bank card, at a bar, it was likely that the transaction was processed through Visa rather than as a debit trans. I haven't seen a bar that allows you to use a debit card with a pin #.

I'm no banker, but I know that if you contact Visa they will contact the business and request a copy of the signed credit card voucher. If the bar can't come up with one that has her sig. on it, Visa will not pay the bar.

Now, of course, I imagine that because the card is directly linked to her bank account, the money is debited from her account rather than billed to her at the end of the month. This makes it more complicated, but in any case, the bar HAS to be able to provide a signed receipt.

I have to deal with purchase disputes all of the time and if I can't come up w/ a signed receipt, we don't get paid.

I never had any problems like this with WaMu and had my account with them since they were Bank United and forever but it sounds possible for any bank to do that, I guess.

Anyways, for the future, tell her to use a seperate credit card (not her bank card) and keep the receipts. The latter she can remember if she isn't too drunk. I've had several disputes on my credit cards and never any issues. My debit/credit bank card is only used for trusted businesses and the ATM.

wlgorman said his girlfriend went to the bar, got happy & drunk. She is probably so drunk that she did not know what she signed for. I am sure the bar has a signed receipt but MAYBE did not give one to the customer. It's the policy everywhere/businesses to have a signed receipt. Froze the acct is the only way to protect your money in case there are more charges/withdrawal coming through.

+1 everytime u swipe ur card u have to sign the receipt and that receipt must be presented at such bank in order to get paid

swiping card alone isnt enough so must be something weird there

also credit cards and some debit cards have fraud protection so is weird the account is frozen

need to look into that

WHen something fraudulent is going on most banks/credit cards freeeze the account for your protection intill you talk to them, I don't know why it is still froze that's kinda strange they should just freeze from that vendor untill dispute is resolved.

I would call back and talk to the bank manager, plus they should have allowed her to cash her check she is a bank customer!!!

Maybe she doesn't want to pay you back and made this up? :dunno:

Work has me on lock down. 60+ hrs a week, and half days as my days off. But that all ends next week, so I'll be making more smart @$$ comments at inappropriate times in the near future, insead of just these one offs

Thanks for noticing though =]
