15 gallons of 87 @ $2.79/gallon = $41.85 per tank
375 / $41.85 = ~8.96 miles per dollar

Car B (my car) gets 40 mpg (low end of what I avg... usually around 42, sometimes up to 45)
40mpg x 15 gallon tank = 600 miles per tank
15 gallons of Diesel @ $3.25/gallon = $48.75 per tank
600 / $48.75 = ~12.31 miles per dollar

I'd rather pay an extra $7 and go 37% further per tank.
True for diesel cars, but not diesel trucks anymore. It is a wash there.

WTF do you drive?
My F-150 gets 15 MPG on a good day.
My Impala SS gets 18 on that say day.
Both have 300 Hp V8 engines.
, my bike only gets about 32 MPH.

Which is? Mercedes has some CDI models. While they don't offer them for 08(just calling them 07's still), VW will have an 09 with a new motor that meets the new EPA emissions standards.

My car runs on the new fuel. Everyone's diesel motor does. It's not like there are pumps for old and pumps for new. The NEWLY made vehicles won't run properly (or long) on the old fuel. My avg/tank hasn't went down either with the cleaner fuel so I'm happy. If I did more hwy driving, my avg would be even higher.

The next VW TDI will still get 40 mpg I'd bet.

2006 VW Jetta TDI. $21k FTW. I get the same mpg with my bike or my car. I avg'd 51mpg on a tank of fuel during my road trip back from Colorado the week after Xmas back in 2006. When I did 80% hwy driving, I got ~45mpg. Now that I do 50% hwy, it's around 40.

Most stations. lol. I rarely have a problem finding a station when I need fuel. That might be b/c when my low fuel light comes on, I still have 70mi to go on the tank. If I can't find a station within 70 miles, I'm an idiot, lol.

If I only drive the VW in a month, I'll pay no more than $100 fuel bill/mo. Fueling the bike or mustang (or both) adds to it (bike much less obviously).

I bought the Lariot but should have bought the King Ranch. I am still glad I got the 150 instead of the 250...

the cost of production increases drastically over the point of marginal returns-you will experience everything from decreased life expectanty of machinery from being run at max capacity for prolonged amounts of time, extremes in turnover of workforce due to burn out(which means extra recruiting/bonuses,ot pay).......this list goes ON AND ON AND ON

But, when EXXON comes out and reports to the stock market RECORD profits, that means they are coming out and saying that THEY PERSONALLY calculate that they have had a better profit/loss margin than ever before. Fact is fact.

The water car is where its at. I just just need to figure it out.

I'm not going to pretend that I can take an international industry and anylyze the economics of it in a post on MH. I'm sure that a squirrel fart in China affects diesel prices in the US in some way. The world runs on crude oil, our whole existence as a human race depends on it. Its pretty scary when you think about it. Right now we dont have too much of a back up plan for when it runs out.
