hrm...

6 years of college, 182 hours later I walked away with a B.A. in Marketing w/ a minor in Computer Science and a B.A. in Management w/ a minor in Office Administrator

now...I work for the Geek Squad setting up servers, vpns, point of sale systems, you name it (if it relates to a computer) I have probably done something with it in the past few years....and I love it. Oh yeah, and have the Microsoft Small Business Server Certification (70-282). Working towards my MSCE, CCNA, A+, and a few other computer certs. Will probably head back to school and get a masters in some computer thing (database administration, computer science, or something).

BTW...could you guess that I like school. I didn't know what to do when I finally graduated...it was kinda boring. Only working one job (not 2-4) and no school...arrg.

Got my MBA at Rice in 99. Salary doubled at graduation, and I almost doubled my undergrad GPA knowing what prospects lay ahead in the real world. 10 year out prospect was $200k + bonus. MBA FTW.

But I hated working for big oil #1 so I just saved and saved for 8 years and have been on vacation since April of 2006, just doing some home restorations and starting up a mortgage and title company. WOOT! Now the money's starting to run a little thin. Time to find another f'ing J O B to pay the bills for another 5 years or so.

Scholarship, grants, loans, savings account. i think the opportunity cost in present value might kinda throw you off but the future value if you were really successful might offset that. I've yet to buy textbook or study more than 15 mins for a test starting in highschool, never stress for a final and do really well for almost zero effort of work.

dropped out of High School when I was 14, started my own company when I was 16 and ran it for 15 years, got my GED when I was 28, graduated from college with my certification when I was 33. In the mean time from the age of 20 to 26 I had 4 beautiful children. So now I am a single mommy with a certification in Process Technology. It took me a lil while to get my sh*t straight... but I did.

Associate Degree - Applied Science, then Bachelor of Science/Industrial Arts - Secondary Education w/ teaching certificate, then 21 hours working on Masters - Occupational Education (did not finish - had good grades, but too busy running a business). I am glad I did go to College - it doesn't make you any better or smarter, but it no doubt opened some doors for me.
