TRE?? anyone have any experience??

i was thinking of buying a TRE (timing eliminator) there are a couple of options i am trying to decide on.

1. the basic tre $50
2. the smart tre with pre mapped gear settings $70
3. it's a gear finder light and a tre together as one. (i have a 02 1k, no gear indicator light) this would be cool cuz i will know what gear im in now only problem is i dunno if it's the smart one built into it or the regular one where you have to map your own fuel and air settings. $ 150

all these can be found on ebay, my real question is has anybody used one of these? is it really worth the money and is it gonna mess with my bike???

had a basic one on my gixxer... the throttle seemed a bit more tame with it. It smoothens out your throttle some. I took it off because I didnt want mine tame, I put a power commander instead and mapped it out the way I wanted it. I probably wouldn't get another one.

A TRE is a great addition to a fuel injected suzuki. BUT using a TRE will not allow a gear indicator to function as the gear sensor is now giving off the 5th gear signal all the time. There is a auto TRE that will return the neutral signal when the bike is in neutral, therefore the idle will remain the same as stock(as opposed to the old TREs that make the engine idle using the 5th gear fuel map and its pretty rich)

The only TRE that allows a gear indicator light to work is the GI Pro but its like $150...

I recommend the JSD2A from www.jsdproducts.com, its an auto TRE that you will not even know its there but adds some very noticeable snap below 4k rpms.

The GIPRO is a nice setup, basically it's a smart TRE coupled with a gear position indicator.

We stock / sell both the regular TRE and the GIPRO.

You can actually make a "std" TRE yourself for a few dollars pretty easily.

No, it wouldn't. A PCIII USB typically only deals with fuel mapping. The TRE modifies the timing, 2 different areas.

i have a giPro on the busa, w gear indicator.

It maps 1-5-5-5-5-5; so it does run a little rich but did smooth out the throttle response a little. W power commander it can be tuned for the change in mapping. I don't know how I've ever ridden w/o a gear indicator.

As for the inexpensive timing retarder fix;
http://www.maxlean.com/motorcyclepages/tre.htm

There are several other ways of doing it, including removing the contact from the clutch basket. These mods only effect the sixth gear lockout as Patrick meantioned and don't effect and mapping or ignition timing.
