freak accident

I know some of those crack in the road are wide enough to eat a tire.

Anyone heard about this?

Biker dies in freak accident in Houston's south side
(11/07/07 - HOUSTON) - A biker is killed and police think the bike's slim tires got stuck in roadway joints in between the lanes.

Officers say the biker was trying to pass a car at the time, but lost control after his bike slipped into the rut. The bike slid down the road and into a tree. This wreck happened last night on Houston's south side on Cullen near Perry.

The biker was pronounced dead at a hospital.

I know there is a crack like that somewhere on the 610 down around the Dome area. They need to fix these.

There's a pretty large space between two of the slabs on the edge of the center lane on 59 south bound near the 610 north loop. I make a mental note to avoid it with the car every time I drive past. I'd hate to think of what would happen if a bike hit that.

Once coming south from Cleveland on 59 I went over a V in the road from a merging slab and the bike got pretty squirelly. I let it sort itself out without a problem, but there was some puckering there, lol.

Gotta keep your eyes peeled out there.

Gotta stay aware out there.

like bananas!

it drives me crazy when i see potholes that are nasty for a car, let alone a bike that dont get fixed. we got some in our apt complex that arent all that dangerous per say, but i dont think its good for the forks to hit them even at 15mph...

Falling Cow Smashes Local Couple's Minivan

i heard about this on my way to work... these folks were okay i dont hink that a bike would have made it out okay. My point is to be safe but if its your time its your time.... RIP to the rider

http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/14524524/detail.html

MANSON, Wash. -- A Westland couple celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary in Washington State barely escaped disaster when a 600-pound cow fell 200 feet and landed on the hood of their minivan.

The county fire chief said the couple was lucky they weren't killed by the cow that fell off a cliff as they drove on a highway on Sunday.

Charles Everson Jr. and his wife Linda were checked at a hospital as a precaution

It must have been a calf cause a cow typically weighs 1200-1600lbs! I only know this cause my grandpa is a rancher and he has me do some database stuff for him from time to time on the birthweights and such.

This is more of a common accident, then a freak accident.

There's one big enough to take you down on 290w @ BW8...if you are traveling west on 290 and start veering right to enter the entrance ramp for Beltway 8, right in between the lane there's a good 3 inch, 4 inch space that'll cause you some problems if you don't cross it properly...

Couple days ago, coming north on Shepherd right after you cross I-10 there was a manhole with no manhole cover. I thought about how much of a that would be to hit.

I pulled over, found the cover laying a couple lanes over, drug it to the hole and was trying to put it back in place and every car honked at me to get out of their way. A couple dudes even flipped me off. Some yelled incoherently in Spanish.

I never could get the thing to fit, like it was warped or something.

Now, the city has had the lane blocked off all the way south of 10 and they're tearing up the road.
