My new ride...

My new ride finally got here on friday! I thought I was gonna have to drive to New Jersey and take a pipe wrench to the guy I bought it from, but he finally shipped it after two weeks.

The bike started life as a stock 2006 Honda 919 donated by Honda of America:
919 candy red

RSD(Roland Sands Designs) took possession of the bike and began a full customization from the ground up.
Heres what the original concept looked like:
standard

Mr. Sands and his boys went to work on this thing and well, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves:

standard

Sands always follows proper break in procedures with all his projects:
standard

Once the rear tire is relieved of it's air pressure it is parked next to some of his other masterpieces to await it's destiny:
standard

Mock up begins with full Ohlins radial mounts sticks, ohlins rear, custom RSD triples, renthal fat bars and custom risers:
standard

Also added was hand formed Aluminum body pieces / heat shields with stainless steel mesh inserts. These took alot of care to make:
standard

Next, Vance and Hines stepped in to make a custom, one off, slash cut exhaust system with billet alluminum inserts:
standard
standard

Honda donated a front headlight/cluster assembly from a honda 599 to update the look of the 919. Performance Machine then donated forged billet alluminum wheels, oversized front and rear racing rotors, radial mount calipers and hand controls.. Dunlop supplied the tires. Speigler supplied the custom SS brake lines.
The bike was then stripped and disassembled and sent off to custom paint & powder coating by Airtrix. These are the same guys that paint all of Rolands custom bikes and I'm told their jobs start at $5 grand and can go into the teens, !

Heres the finished product:

Once the bike was complete, Roland turned it over to The Ride for Kids foundation where it was featured at motorcycle shows across the US as a fund raiser raffle bike. It ended up raising over $53000 for the cause and a lucky guy in New Jersey ended up winning the bike with $20 worth of tickets.

Now I'm sure your wondering, how did this no body from motohouston end up with this thing. Well, our lucky bike winner was in a pinch for money and threw the thing on ebay to sell it. Lucky for me, I just stumbled upon the auction when I was google searching for pics of the bike. I stuck a bid in saturday night(10/13/07) that was $100 over the lowest current bid and went to sleep. Woke up the next morning and what do you know. I won.
I actually got to meet Roland on sunday and he immediatly offered to buy the bike back for $5K over what I paid for it on the spot. I should have told him I paid $20K for it . I gave him my number and told him to give me a hollar when he really wanted it back. Until then, I'll be riding the wheels off this thing. I'll miss the RC, but I can always get another one later.

Heres when I picked her up at the forward air depot:

Goofy little vid take from my phone when I first fired the beast up:

I was giddy like a little school girl that day.

And then I'm off to Motorcycles Unlimited to install rear sets and look for a new rear tire.

Coming soon to a meet and greet near you.

-Tom

Roland nicknamed the project "Braveheart" to commemorate kids struggling with Brain Tumors. The bike was built to raise money for the pediatric brain tumor foundation through Ride for Kids. Some pics courtesy of Cycle World Magazine.

Yeah, I don't think the chopper/cruiser guys like me too much at LSR this weekend. All the chicks kept looking at my bike instead of thiers.
Threatened by a lil' ol' honda.

hahahah that's weird....i was talking to roland sands about his bikes, and he was telling me that he was trying to buy back a bike that he made from someone who bought it, and was at the show.

sweeeet bike tom....don't sell it back! if you do, make sure he pays you a good amount of money for the depression it will cause you.
