Which Tires???

I have an '03 R6 and am need a rear tire, but hey if replacing one might as well replace both.

The tire size on my bike is:
Front: 120/60-ZR17
Rear: 180/55-ZR17

What kind of tires would you prefer for standard Houston riding and the occassional stunting (learning)? Looking for something that grips good, holds nicely in H-Town weather, and will last longer than 6k miles. If you have a suggestion or preference please Help a brutha out...

Re: Which Tires???

From the sound of your criteria, it seems like a good sport-touring tire is for you.* 3-5k miles for a super-sport tire is good.* If you regularly want more than 3 or 4K from a rear tire, you need to go with a sport-touring tire.*

Anyone of the following would be good:

Metzler Z6 roadtecs
Dunlop D220
Bridgestone BT020
Michelin Pilot Road
Continental Road Attack
Avon AV45/46

I personally have ridden D220s, Bridgestone BT020, and Continental Road Attacks (what's on my street RC51 right now).* They all handled great in the rain and were plenty of grip for spirited street riding.

Bridgestone BT-020, nuff said, The tire has great handeling qualities(nice rounded profile) smooth transitioning. Great wet & dry grip, and you can actually get some mileage out of them. right:

Agreed!* right:*

I think unless you have tried various brands then please dont give feedback cuz the answers will be biased to the only things you've used.. just my $.02.

yep the same would go for a guy that sells a particular brand tire. i'm sure they would b ea bit biased too..

Re: Which Tires???

Actually John / SCRC doesn't sell street tires, nor can he buy street tires from Bridgestone. He has no horse in that race, so your inferrence is incorrect.

Good luck with finding a tire that satisfies all of your criteria!
Getting 6000 miles on a setof good performance tires is unheard of .....
Though Bridgestone BT014 and the Michelin Pilot powers have been
more favorable in my opinion/experience for all around styles of riding.

Think I will try them BT020's out next go around.

Good question RideToDie
