thinking of getting a quad...

Im thinking about getting a sport quad...either a honda model or a banshee/raptor...

would it be worth the money? as far as places to ride? i live in Sugarland so are there any places around me to ride?

I would want it to be as fast as possible and be able to wheelie and what-not...what models do you recommend

what is your budget? 400EX is bulletproof but slightly outdated. 450's are all up to par these days. Z400/KFX400/DVX400 are always fun. help me help you. i raced ATV MX for 3 seasons before the STQRA split.

i did a little research before on some quads and really liked the Suzuki LTZ450R. i've heard it'd run 80mph, is fuel injected and has titanium valves and titanium exhaust. sounds pretty high tech, and i bet it'd kick

Any (REAL) sport quad is going to go more than fast enough to break your neck or get seriously hurt on. :-)

The Blaster (200cc 2stroke) will top around 50-60 mph...and I think that's the smallest darn sport quad you'll find out there.

I owned a Raptor 660 for a while and I was never a huge fan of it. I loved it on the streets because of the raw power but the new 450's could stomp it on low end. My new favorite is the Yamaha 450, that thing is sickkkk. My raptor, not sure if it goes for all of them, required mucho maintenence which got really old. The new Honda's are sweet too, but definately check out the Yammi's(although I don't know if they are in your budget :/:

Top speed is under 80 on those. 75-77 IIRC.

The Raptor 660's would run 76 WOT and the new 700's will do 74 but they get there faster.

Just saw your 5,000 budget, which is PLENTY to get a used Raptor or something of the like. Something I hadn't considered is a Banshee, those things are sick. I rode with one for the first time 2 weekends ago and it was sweet. I personally love 2-strokes though, if you are looking for a 4-stroke then read my previous post

If you want power for racing, go for a banshee, but if you want power for fast trail riding, then go for the raptor

The Suzuki's are pretty fast and seem to be winning all of the MX races these days. You get more for your money on them. They are fuel injected, they are lower, and they have a wider stance.

I have a Raptor 700 and it is a blast to ride. It wheelies like you wouldn't believe. I also took it to MSR Houston and rode it on the track where I got it up to 75mph. It was a blast.

As far as riding MX tracks, you'll have to drive up to Conroe to 3 Palms or find out what days the tracks allow quads if at all. A lot of tracks will not allow quads to ride there. But the places with trails like Cherokee cycle park are a blast to ride in as well.
