Sam Houston National Forest this weekend

Hey guys, I'm planning on taking my wife and son up to the Sam Houston National Forest this weekend, but I've never been there. We just moved to Houston a few months ago from the north and any advice/stops along the way would be great. We live in the Northeast area of Houston.

Specifically I'm looking for a place to eat up there, a good burger or something. Also just places to stop and check out, maybe a route to take. We'll be in the car since we'll have my 3 year old with me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What day do you plan on coming? The forest isn't the coolest place to just kinda "hang out" especially not since deer season is on(only bow but still) but there are a couple nice places you could set up a picnic if you're interested. Conroe has a *small* shopping strip with a few cafe's at the entrance to the forest at the intersection of 105 and 149. I live in Huntsville just on the other side of the National Forest but I am verrry familiar with it because I hunt it every year and drive it atleast twice a week. Feel free to PM me if ya need anything.

Josh and I took the 50s up there for some dirt riding at the begining of t his month. They have tons of hiking/biking/off-roading trails. but be prepared there is lots of sand and hard to ride a small dirt bike through.
If I were you I would print a map of everything before you go, they apparently dont like to refill their information booths, all were empty of forest maps.
If you plan on camping, go ahead and pay for a spot, something like $15 but allot better than the free camping spots.
As far as eating, well Josh and I camped so we made our own food.
Have fun and be safe!!

That park is open 24/7 to campers. and the trails are open from dawn till dusk. Unless it's raining, and even then they were still open for us!!
