Question about vehicle pics

Why is it that when people take pictures of there car, truck, or motorcycle they always cover the license plate? I am just wondering why I always see this done.

Never thought of that but it makes sense, but I would think that with people knowing your name, it would be just as easy if not easier to find where you live.

I understand the point of covering it, but really all a thief has to do is take a drive down the interstate and get all the plate numbers he wants, so your really not hiding anything that he can't already see.

So concerned about showing it off but not for it to come up missing....

I can see the concern; you can bring any license plate number to the DMV and for a small fee get the information. Can they still do that here? was available in Cali before...

They can also use your plate# to pull things like VIN and location, then attempt to "sell" your bike on eBay or CL. They find pics you've posted online, use they info they can dig up, and then it looks like a legit ad. Buyer gets scrwd when there's no bike to pick up after he's paid.
