Arai... WTF?

So I'm out riding yesterday and the rubber stripping on the chin area of my 4 year old Arai comes flying off!! I reach up to my chin when I felt it go and was lucky to catch the slide out chin spoiler before it took off too! I contacted Arai to find out what's the deal... but shoot, you drop $400+ on a helmet you expect it to last at least 5 years!

I need a new helmet next spring and now I'm wondering if Arai is the way to go... I've only ever owned Arai but jeez...

I went from Arai to Suomy. Give them a try-on at Motorcycles Unlimited, you may be surprised with the fit and comfort, very close if not the same as Arai.

I own both shoei x-11 and arai rx-7 corsair.
For the money, the shoei seems engineered just a little bit better as far as the way it is put together and it's user friendlyness. Just my .02.

How old is your helmet Steve?
As already stated, your helmet does have a 5 year warranty, although you may have to wait a bit to get it repaired.
FWIW, I like both Arai and Suomy, although Suomy IMO is a little better bang for the buck.

Do you homework. It's not as important to spend the most money. Fit and comfort are actually more important.

glad someone mentioned it. A poorly fitting helmet can be distracting. Look for fit and function/quality first.

I went form Arai to the HJC's. Love my Carbon HJC.....lightest helmet out there and fits is great. I wore a LG Arai, and i'm in a XS HJC with custom cheek pads. Got both mine form Haner (thanks Johnny boy!!) he and Speis, Ty Howard, and several other noteable riders are in the HJC Caarbon for the win................

Friends Arai had the same problem a few days ago, he Superglued it so we will see how it holds up.

I Love my Suomy and know that my noggin will be safe if I have to take another hit while wearing one. I did find out that the graphics is sort of like a vinyl film, I had a nick and it now has turned into a 2" section ready to tear off. Not too impressed with that but if anyone has seen my bike or the way I dress I am not into looks but functionality...

BTW: Suomy's have a tendency to lose the locking piece for their visor hold downs, and shame on you if you lose a side cap that goes over the visor hinge but fear not as replacements are available.
