, this month alone....100 bucks to replace what I damaged on the bike, new tires this week should be 230 from KawiJM 's tire special on BT002's, just purchased some new plastics for the bike (won't tell ya how much....kinda hard finding good deals on 14 yr old plastics, but I found 'em) probably 150 next weekend for the hill country trip, trackday on the 26th minus the 5 that I already did this year and 3 sets of tires for the season. On top of all this I still manage to give away a good 30% portion of my income (take home) to help pay for our wedding & savings....I love this sport Oh, I forgot about oil changes, new sprockets, 2 chains, and whatever else. I have to say though, the joy riding gives me and the friends I have made doesn't make it seem like that much at all...

forgot to mention we are packing four dudes in a truck and hotel for the weekend hill country trip. Without that, I'd probably be looking at 300 for the weekend.

Find a job where owning / operating a motorcycle are conditions of employment, and you can write off all those maintenence costs.

They exist, you know.

So, to face hardcore reality, how much does it cost you be the proud owner of a bike or bikes? How much do you spend on financing, insurance, maintenance, upgrades, mods, gear, tires, trackdays, medical, etc. Feel free to list per week/month/year. How much richer could you be?

For me so far, rough estimates, and I just started spring 2006 and may not even be that into it yet, in Dollars :

I am not listing how much I actually paid for my bikes, but feel free.

700 full coverage insurance/year
200 on maintenance/year
500 on upgrades and mods/year
1500 on gear/year
500 on tires/year
200 on trackday/year (cornerworked for the other)
Due to a crash, about 1400 on medical so far

Not to count all the money I spent on burgers at bike night, gas when doing rides on the weekend and also having lunch then, etc.

so ppl to make it briefly

EQUIMOTUS COSTUS MUCHUS that is all

This year I spent:

10 track days about $4000 includes track fee, food, gas, lodging
repaint 3x, 2x wrecks $600 I am a pro painter using quality paint
2 suits and helmet $1200
2 gloves $300
tires/warmers $1200
body works $900
insurance $1300 per bike X 3
parts to fix wrecks $2000

Its a priority thing... Bikes get the top shaving, rest of the budget taken care of after....

Since I got Busa in May, about 200/month over payments for upgrades until this last month, had to slow down a bit. Over 10k miles, all the road trippin' and eating/drinking out isn't easy on budget either

$1400 to replace the helmet and leathers from my last crash, $2000 so far from the broken collarbone, $5800 for a new track bike, set up and upgrades, $2200 for the Keith Code Superbike school I'm going to next month so maybe I won't crash so much, no idea how much I've spent on track days with Buck and Lone Star.

My Harley is a lot cheaper.

i do all my own labor, and get employee discount on parts, so maintenance is negligable....

i also got my current bike for free...(yes, freebie) i shelled out about $400 for parts to make it streetable.

i pay $80 for a year of liability only. not much there.

then, I actually *earn* money to fix other peoples bikes...its my job...

...i think im totally gonna screw up the curve...

ok now that we talk about everything incluiding crashes.

last year bought a zr7s 3400 crashed broken hand

off 4 months sold bike as is pitty checks from disability

bought new bike gs500 3400

so is 1400 lost on first bike plus new set of pirelli diablo 250

1650

plus 1400 on new bike

3050

plus all money that i didnt earn in 4 months 7000

plus remanents medical bills from er and blah blah 1000

so i lost about

3050
+7000
1000
_______

11,050 dlls yeah crashing sucks

thats why i play safe now, cant afford to be injured again and loose another bike

but im happy i recovered my hand that was about 70% probability to be lost

so that is priceless,,.

Yep, without even considering all the mods, trackdays, etc., you should plan on spending a bare minimum of:
-$1000+/year on full coverage ins. w/medical
-$1000+/yr on tires/basic maintanance
-$1000+ gear
These numbers can go slightly down for some, but will likely go significantly higher for the majority of riders. If you can't atleast afford the previous three items, then you have no business on a bike.
This does'nt include any repairs, stickers, bike payments, deductibles, etc...
You wanna try to beat the odds and skip on doing any of those first three and your gonna pay for it later. Trust me.

I see a lot of guys posting pretty cheap insurance on a yearly basis. I am with State farm and I pay 100 bucks a month for each of my bikes. 3600 bucks a year, I feel like I am getting robbed. Im 37 with a clean driving record, Im really going to have to question them on this.....
