Thinking about getting a bike by trading my project car, plasuable?

Hey guys I was rear ended in my modded 240, the insurance company screwed me over for a minor damage and totalled the vehicle. I paid out of pocket and am having the whole car re painted and straightened.

I already have another vehicle and I dont see myself going thru buying an LS1 to drop into the car. It has a stock engine with 65k miles. And the body is the rare 1997 model.

Is it a better idea to trade the car for a bike or start fresh? I am thinking ill get a better deal/value if I trade since the lowball factor is minimized. I am hoping for a 06 CBR or R6.

Here are pics during the wreck and one before, its still at JC being repainted and fixed to 100%.

Note the paintjob before is OK, i am having JC re do it so it will be a LOT better.

Yes i have seen the 08 250, its nice... Thanks for your concern, I understand that the 600 is no starter bike.

Ya that car has no frame damage or anything which is why for the 6000 bill baker jackass nissan charged to total the car, I am getting a 3k paintjob from JC instead... Baker didnt want to deal with an aftermarket car so, without even putting the car on any frame machine, they cracked my front bumper and tacked on a 6k bill. I had to eat the costs and get her fixed thru JC autobody, its been there for months because i dont know why they dont want to start on it, but I am going to start pushing them to finish the car if there are offers or I get ideas on what to do with it...

I dont think the car will have a clean title since the insurance company deemed it a total loss. :(

Yes I will be a beginner rider, I prob will learn off another 250 or atleast take the riding class. I do not speed or take risks when driving, and the few riders that have been riding for a longg time have said it should be alright.

'i do not speed or take risk'

yet your looking at buying an SS bike? that'll bust all speed limits in 2nd gear. they serve no purpose other then to haul .

see these bikes make people act stupid. its a fact of life. don't kid yourself, i GUARANTEE you'll bust 100mph within days of starting to ride.

there's a reason insurance is so high for the bikes i bet you can't even afford full coverage, usually $3000+/yr.

there;s a reason people aged 18-25 are the highest % of DEATHS in motorcycling.

I was hoping for a street R6... I am not sure, I was checking to see what I could get for a trade. I am getting tired of throwing money at that car, and I really am hesitating an LS swap.

A bike prob will be more attractive and easier to maintain than a modded car

i wouldn't try trading it in
try to sell it outright then use your money on down
any dealership will give you nothing for it

But you are right, I prob will use my LS swap money to get a 250 on the side and experiment with it before i jump on a freshly traded 600cc bike

Racer X is right man. Especially with no riding experience, just start on a 250 if you don't want to go fast. Plus the 250 actually looks cool now. haha

I wonder if it sounds any better though :P

you're much better off selling the car to an enthusiast. an 06 cbr or R6 is worth about 6500-7500 in good shape. your car with a clean title is worth about 9k, totalled, about half that, or 4500-5500. so finding someone to trade a clean titled bike for a salvaged car that is 8 years older than the bike is going to be very very very tough. especially with the ongoing trend of import enthusiasts trading their cars for bikes.

1. Sell the car outright...

2. Leave your ego at the door...

3. Buy a nice used 250...

4. Ride it for 5k miles or more...

5. Sell it for the same price you bought it...

6. Buy a 600...
