it, help I'm (VMAX)

I have an opportunity to pick up a clean VMAX for $2900 bones. I love this bike. I owned a 1985, and a 2001. Like the old that will give up the puntang any time you call her, this monstrosity is calling me again. It wants to rape me, Plant the faux tank into my face on launches, consume gasoline like a jet fighter, and kick me in the chest when V-Boost activates.

What am I do do?

(no, I am NOT selling the ZX-14)

Apologies to those whose psyche was destroyed by this post. Sometimes I forget how cruel and insensitive I am compared with the compassionate gentlemen around me. It would probably be better to move it to the BWS or NWS part of the forum, before DHS breaks down my door and whisks me to an unknown location.

NO ....there is some freakin up tight muthas in here.....

BUT yes, I love Vmaxes and its a steal for $2900 if its in decent shape...trannies aren't the best but.......nothing sounds or looks like one.....I would like to build a Vmax....put a chain drive on it, GSXR front end and wheels, lower it a tad, some good pipes and jet kit(dyno tuned ofcourse). That thing would be hella fun on the street, especially when the kids pull up on Gix 750s and 1k, and you nail it from a 60 roll and walk them.....by the time they start to catch you(120-130) you have already shut it down and opened a beer....

Man thats a great looking bike for $2900.....CONGRATS!

How many miles? Run well?

You gotta get some pipes on it, nothing sounds more kick then a Vmax with pipes, even the old school Kerkers sound killer, 4-2-1. Make sure you jet it right and there is something you can do to the "vboost" to make the doors open a little soon, like it requires less vacuum drop to get em opened...then put some spray on it....LOL

Oh and chain drive....did I mention chain drive? Thats like 10hp to the wheel gain easy.....

It's a 1991 with 31K on the clock. The weird thing is, the bike doesn't have the V-Wobble my 2000 had or some of the other ones I've ridden. No issues on decel, and I was able to roll it from 60-125 with one hand, perfectly stable, and besides a little fork pogo'ing in hard bumpy corners, none of the major handling issues that they are so well known for. Mind you, this thing is bone stock other than normal maintenance items. I guess the earlier 90's models were built better.

I had a Holeshot + STG III on my 00', I like the sound of the Kerker as well. If anything, the front brakes are a little mushy, will do SS lines and the FJR 1300 master cylinder, thinking about the R-1 calipers. I want to replace the discs too, they are pretty well worn and grooved. Other than that, some of the clearcoat on the brushed aluminum is peeling, and allowed the metal underneath to oxidize. That's too easy to fix. It runs very well, Vboost pulls hard, however it seems a little weaker under 5K rpms then I remember... a little pilot action and needle shimming should fix it up.
