rob, this is not really what i am saying, i am saying the noobs should not go on this ride for everyone's safety, you go on these rides, you know the deal, don't you think it would be safer without the element of unexperienced riders. The noobs need an organized ride with some experienced riders in the mix at a slower pace to help them learn not so we can all teach each other bad habits. A noob doesn't really have habits yet.

i am sure that if the noobs, self included were to post up and ask for some experienced riders to coome help them learn there would be plenty of responce because everyone on here is like family, and i know that there are guys and girls on here that would be more than happy to help so we could bring our skill level up and point out what we are doing wrong. I took the msf and there is only so much you can take away from riding in circles in a parking lot. I know that Tim would be the first to sign up as he has already helped me and would do it for anyone else on here. My point was that this particular ride is not for the noobs if they are going to try to keep up, someone will always get hurt or worse. I am not saying they are unwanted, i am saying this would not be the best ride for them to get comfortable and learn from, it is kinda hard to learn from guys that are 5 miles ahead of you.

FWIW, I go by the 7/10th rule. I try to stay around the 70% range of my skill level. An easy way to check if I'm within that range is this:
If I'm going through a corner at 100 mph, can I take it 30% faster, or at 130 mph?
If so, then I'm o.k., if not then I back it down a bit.

Another thing I keep in mind is that braking distances and ground covered become exponential at speed. In other words it takes WAY more than twice the distance to stop from 100 mph than from 50 mph.

Another eye opener: At 100 mph, you're traveling 146.6 feet per second.
In 3 seconds you'll travel almost 1 and a 1/2 football fields.

Take it to 130 and it's 190.6 feet per second.

Thats a lot of ground.

Jimmy,
I know you try hard to ensure the safety of those on your ride, and everyone is a big boy / girl and should ride within their limits.
Unfortunately, that's not always the case, and because you've now become a "public figure", you'll have to deal with some of the fall out that comes with it.
It sucks, but it is what it is.

I think everyone here is probably at least 18 and can make up their own mind to decide whether they want to join a public ride or not.

It's not up to me or anyone else to say otherwise.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; "Ride your own ride."
Check your ego as you strap on your helmet, no one is going to win a $12.00 plastic trophy on the street.
Have fun, and you all be careful out there!

My 2 cents, YMMV.

I can't speak for other groups, but we'll invite a noob along occasionally on our rides. Typically though it will only be 1, or 2 at a time at most.

If you count wearing out the center of your tire commuting 5 miles to and from work as "riding the street"
