RIP

They should hang the SOB that killed him by their nads.

Under Texas law, drivers are required to either slow down or change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the road, with emergency lights on. The law took effect in 2003. If a driver doesn't move over or slow down, they can face fines from $200 to $500. If there's an accident, of course they could also face criminal charges.

How many people do this? Not enough dammit.

So much for the "stupid, money generating law" that everyone complains about that makes you move over and slow down when an officer has someone pulled over.

RIP

What a tragedy. I hope the person who hit him is able to live with what they've done.

Traffic stops are the most dangerous and unpredictable things we do.

RIP.

Whats really sad, according to news report last night, is police officers have only written less than 3,000 tickets statewide for this since it was passed in 2003.

Seems some police officer organization thought it was not a good law so they spread the word not to enforce it.

You see it all the time, cops pull someone over on the side of a high-speed road and stand alongside the road when they could pull them off and off-ramp or into a driveway where its much safer.

I have complained to my local PD about officers risking their and others lives by not pulling the person off into a safe area.
