Nope, not today. I wouldn't race one of those bikes today either.

Still cool footage though. Some real legends of the sport in that race.

And who'd think an 82 bike was that fast.

/ that was sarcastic.

Nice vid and awesome race. They sure came a long way with bikes and look of gear since then.

Guess they used haybales before air fence came along.

Airfence is pretty new actually... haybales were the norm.

The funny thing is, tracks like that were "safe" then. That's why Oak Hill, TWS (Texas World Speedway) and some others out of state are the way they are- the standards were a lot different then.

Airfence also doesn't make the barriers completely safe either, if you hit them right, they'll stop you more safely. Unfortunately, there is a wrong way to hit them and they become completely in-effective. The really unfortunate part is that you don't get a choice on which way you hit it!

I just can't fathom why people with lots of money, spend millions on race tracks with the intention that cars and motorcycles will ride/ race it, and DON'T build it as safely as they can.

I hope Liberty happens, they have a great plan, and safety is priority one with it's design. I'd like to see the momentum get going on that again...

And oh yeah, I still get the 'ol Mike Baldwin helmet out every once in a while just to look at it...
