Paint is more permanant, so vinyl seemed like a logical choice for a temporary custom look.

I wanted to know if Vinyl would ruin the paint. Or Bubble or water would get under it and rust things. I was also most concerned with the cost - more or less money than paint? Only, No one seems to have any actual experience with a vinyl wrap, just opinions. I've seen the car wraps and I really like them, only how do they hold up? How long do they last?

How did the guy like his camo GSXR? I really want to know. Thanks for all the comments so far.

Please don't argue. I don't like Rocky Road ice cream, but you can eat all you want...
it will bubble if not applied correctly. you get what you pay for comes to play. and if you have any exposed metal....and water happens to get near it....it will definately rust. raw metal will rust (corrode sp?) regardless. that means scratches or rock chips etc.

i talked to a guy who had his bike vinyl wrapped. they only wrapped his side fairings because the tail, front fairing, fenders, and gas tank had too many curves and holes to work around. he paid $250 for each side he said, and the vinyl loss most of the gloss after 1 summer.

Thanks for the heads up about the gloss going away after a year and the fading. I planned to go tomorrow and get a "realistic" quote. I'll keep you guys informed.

cool deal. only problem is, it's hard to compare prices for your bike, to a sportbike with a lot more body parts. but it'll probably give some type of idea.

So... No love for the Vinyl. The price is competitive with paint and you can choose ANY style, pattern or photo - The catch? The vinyl really does stick. They guy said the "gloss" was rated for 4 years outdoor. But he also said taking it off was a B****. Something to the effect of - You don't want to take it off and yes, if you get the heat gun too hot it will bubble the paint underneath.

I don't want to do anything that would Damage the orriginal paint, so I just had him make me up some custom stickers and I'm applying them right now.

I'll submit photos of my stickers later...

Okay, so the Pig Tail Skulls are stickers from "Leathal Threat" - I got them at Cycle Gear. I wanted more, but they only had one large and then small came with the tank protector.

The Mean above the tank protector and the Meaner-n-u were custom. I can't tell you what they cost per sticker, because I bought - Ummm 5 and Guitar Man bought 10.

It was fairly quick and easy and the vinyl they use for stickers is NOT the vinyl they use to wrap your bike. And when they wrap a bike or car, they use a primer so it sticks - REALLY WELL...

I still think the wrap is a great idea, if they can figure out how to do it without damaging the paint underneath, then I would most likely wrap my bike.

Look up Leathal Threat Stickers. I don't know if they have any other colors, but Pink was the only color I saw at Cycle Gear.
