but technically if houston could do this, then it's not a state law that says you can't. granted HPD might not write you a ticket for it but if is illegal in texas then texas highway patrol could write you for it in houston still. is that correct? i think cities can outlaw something that the state allows you to do, but can't allow you to do something the state outlaws.

Think you hit it... but then you've got a lot of variables. It couldn't hurt to have the mayor supporting it however.

Yeah STATE overrules/trumps CIVIC in the way that FEDERAL overrules/trumps STATE...Hopefully though, this could be something considered on the state or even federal level. I don't know though that a reasonable trooper would continue with writing the ticket if he were aware that the city allowed for the splitting of lanes unless you were being an and he needed a reason to inconvenience you...

I did a little last week. Might be why I have a nail in my 2000 mile-old tire. Dang it.

that's what keeps me from doing it. There's all kinds of on the shoulder. It's the dust pan for the road.

I only used the shoulder because some jackass's horse trailer broke down on I-10 and caused a 10 mile traffic jam. I wasn't about to sit in that line. Sorry. Once I made it to DT I exited though and took Memorial instead.

If lane-splitting were legal then you would'nt have to bother with the shoulder.

Man enough?? Are you asking me if my ego is big enough or if I'm competent?

If lane splitting is legal then I'm doing it without worrying about being liable for an accident. If it's not legal and I am close to my exit, then I might ride the shoulder. Less likely to get into an accident that way and it's safer than sitting in traffic.

lane splitting saves me 15-20 mins every morning going to work and afternoon coming home from work! and I've had the cops turn their sirens, but really, what are they going to do? split traffic to catch up?
you know whats funny ... is when im splitting stopped traffic, i feel bad if i pass a bike that is stopped in traffic, and I'll sometimes pull in next to them!

I agree that it needs to become legalized in texas!
