The sponsor of the bill, Rep. Bob Griggs, did not run for re-election so the bill is dead AFAIK. It would be great if someone was motivated enough to organize support from all the Texas MC forums for another attempt. During the Rita traffic jams I knew a few people who lane split & had no problems, even from police. Of course they had no way to follow them. Even if it were legal I would be very wary of enticing road rage from some frustrated jerk who's been sitting in traffic for hours.

in cali the law is you can split lanes as long as traffic is not moving any faster than 40 mph and you may not go more than 10 mph faster than traffic is moving. lane splitting must be done between the #1 and 2 lane only.

Better than sitting in traffic.

You have to be the most lawabiding motorcycle rider in the world.

Exactly, we have no AC and we are smaller so why not use the shoulder.

so, you chose to ride what you ride. even in cali it;s illegal to ride the shoulder.

when lane splitting your using the bikes size to make your way. riding the shoulder, i could drive an 18 wheeler down the EMERGANCY lane.

again lame

no country in the world is riding down the emer. lane allowed, filtering or lane splitting is legal in most other countries.

i think people w/o any skills or cajones ride down the emer. lanes. the TX house bill also is geared just like the TX helmet law.

i'm not worried about guns or even people purposly pulling over. it's the one's minding their own minds and not paying attention and crossing over lanes that are gonna take you out.

and in CA if you get into a wreck involving lane splitting, the bike is automatically at fault.

it;s not illegal to lane split in CA, but it's not legal either. might really be the same in Tx.

if this bill ever made it to law, there would have to be a massive public campaign to tell the public its legal.

but the bill also doesn't make it legal to ride the emergancy lanes.

No, I never said bikes should use the shoulder and cars shouldn't. What is weak as usual is your argument. It takes skill and to split lanes in slow/stopped traffic?

it;s not illegal to lane split in CA, but it's not legal either. might really be the same in Tx. it is legal, it defines the rules to abide by in the california code of regulations
