problems with 3rd gear

What's up all, i'm a new and i'm having troubles with my bike: it won't let me get in 3rd gear. What does it mean? How much would it cost to fix?

to many variables, you have to take it somewhere and get looked at. Will it let you go past third.

chances are though that the gear or shift fork are jacked up pretty bad. and if thats the case you have metal floating around your motor and in wich means you need a new motor. not trying to be the barrier of bad news but just forwarning you.

i think camaro was trying to give the worst case scenario.....but yeah, i would get the bike checked out before further damage is caused. i'd rather pay a few hundred now, then a couple grand later.

Dude I have never had to rebuild a motor due to bent forks or worn dogs.....that is just asinine...

You will have to pull the motor and split the cases to get the tranny out and replace the forks....(depending on type of engine, you didn't mention what it was). It could also be a problem wth the shifter detent assy or shift drum...won't know until you pull it apart.... Might be something simple but you still have to pull the motor to get to anything past the detent.

Here's the deal. I bought the bike on thursday (since i'm financing, i couldn't get a test drive) so when i take it home i realize that my 3rd gear is messed up. I call the dudes where i bought the bike from and the next day i bring it back so they can check it out... They tell me they had to order the part from Kawasaki and that it would take a while for them to get it in. They havent even touched my bike yet. I drive by there every day and it's just sitting there... It's so freakin frustrating!!!

The previous owner probably messed with the shifter while the bike was off. That can really hurt the bike bike if done while the motor's off....so I heard

i was giving worst case.... if its not bad then sure just replace the parts that are bad, but if theres metal everywere, i wouldnt take the risk of having metal in the oil passages.....
