Any Comp. Gurus here?

I've searched all over the net and can't find the answer to this. I have a Dell E1505 laptop w/ Windows XP Media Center Edition. Sometimes when I hibernate it when I turn it on it loads up to the login screen then after a few seconds it hibernates itself again. I've tried typing in my password and logging on before it can do it but it just logs on and then hibernates. Any suggestions? Thx in advance.

Nah, neither of those. Computer starts right back up and works fine. It'll do it after sitting for hours too, so it's not warm at all. My old charger was bad and I just got a new one but that wouldn't effect it at all.

check if there's any updates either from microsoft update or from the manufacturer, many times that will fix the issue

Some DELL Laptop batteries are good for only one year. We use mostly DELL laptops at my workplace.

in a past life i was a network admin. best answer i can tell you is...dont use hibernate. just turn it off, lol.

i never saw the point, and any system i have seen try to use hibernate has issues, or gets them eventually. then ive run into pc's that try to hibernate at random times when you dont want them to. had to find ways to permanantly disable that.

if you can find a fix props to you, not worth it if you ask me though.

Thanks for a advice everybody, I will look into it all tomorrow and let ya'll know what I come up with. It's weird because I've searched and I can't find any instance where someone has run into the same issues.

I'd say Chris24 is the winner... but if you rally want to mess with it, start looking at Dells support and www.technet.com

Have fun.

I have the same system. Check the settings for the battery and move the slider to the best performance option. or you can manually set things so it doesnt hibernate or standy or other stuff after a certain amount of time. Go to destop right click then properties and so on.

Hibernate sucks, go to your power options disable it and set up your standy preferences. Hope that helps.

Isn't standby worse for the pc than hibernate, since it's pretty much still on?? I generally turn the PC OFF at night but it stays on power or hibernate for 15 hours of the day.

The worst thing for electronic components is heat cycles. Best practice is to leave your computer on all the time but, now days most of us do not keep are computers long enough to even care. SO, I am simply suggesting that you use the settings that make your laptop convenient for use.

Waiting 10 minutes for a laptop to possibly come out of hibernation is not what I consider convenient. Open the lid, it comes out of standby and you are ready to roll.
