05' CBR600RR

Sportbike Performance?

I have had my 05' CBR600RR for a few months now and usually go riding on the weekends with a friend of mine who has an 03' Ninja 636 with a slip on, some sort of air intake mod, and a gear swap.

Anyways this weekend was the first time we had ever actually lined up and ran them. Both were from a first gear roll, the first race I jumped out a bike on him and held it until we let off and the second run he jumped a bike length on me and held it until we let off.

Seeing as how my bike is bone stock, he has those mods, plus 25k miles of experience vs. my 800-900 miles, and 37cc's on me I figured he would have pulled on me a bit more.

Are all 600 series bikes this close in performance and do the mods he has done help any at all with performance?

yes they are all pretty close. His gearing change will make the biggest difference as far as mods go.

Rider does make a lot of difference. Especially if you're talking about a drag launch from a standing start.

However, if you're talking about the absolutes of acceleration that are dictated by HP, tprque, weight, drag and drive ratios then one bike would outperform the other, hands down.

In this case I think it would be the 636 for sure. Everything I've ever read gives it an edge in torque, HP and acceleration.

Why did you have so many? Did you eat them for breakfast instead of eating wheaties?

they are somewhat close in performance, but the 636 is the fastest in it's class. so him not pulling on you is rider error. plus i hate to admit, but the 600rr is underpowered compared to other 600's. but i'd rather have honda's durability over that little extra power....upgrade the rider, and it's an even race.

it's usually a rider's race... especially from a stand still, getting the perfect launch takes some time... even after that it usually depends on the rider, because like everyone has been saying, theyre all pretty close in performance

Of course it's the rider!

Example: Valantino Rossi on 250 Nighthawk vs. our own Racer X on his SV.

When the light turns green, Rossi will take off on his 250 like a bat out of . When the light turns green, Racer X will be looking left, then looking right, then looking left again to check for traffic, before he proceeds.

even if both riders are the same, which won't happen, an airfilter/velocity stacks and exhaust will not make much of a difference if any. They could even hurt the bike such as top end or at low rpm's without a tune. At least that's what i've seen on dyno charts. The gearing will help though. Once again, if both riders are the same.

By the way, will all of the 600's pull the front tire off the ground at full throttle all the way through first even while putting weight on the front to prevent it? I guess it would depend on rider weight some, but you know what I mean. I've been on an r6 before but never did try.

Funny but still wouldn't know who finish first. If Rossi got hit by a red light runner then our very own racer X would take the checkered flag.

I don't think so. Racer X would have stopped, walked over to Rossi, who's lying down on the ground, and said "MSF?" as he handed him a business card.
