No title?

I have a bike that was part of a bankruptcy. They never came to get the bike? How do I get title to it so I can sell it?

so like what someone took the title in the bankruptcy, or the lien company still has it, or what? sounds to me like someone else has legal title to the bike (which means you CAN'T sell it cause it doesn't belong to you).
But you could try to get a bonded title... you'll have to call the tax office place and ask them for a place that does bonded titles.. you have to pay on a bond of like 10% of the bike's book value, and you get a bonded title (not a normal title), and then if someone (the legally titled owner) claims the bike like within 2 years after that, you have to give em the bike or the bond company pays them the bond and then they come after you for the 90% bond that you owe. If no one claims the bike after 2 years you get a normal title.

And of course, a lot of people may be hesitant to buy something with a bonded title.

Of you could find the last legally registered owner(whoever is supposed to have title now) and get them to sign it over to you... but from what youre saying it sounds like if you try that then they will know you have the bike that they own and take it from you.

or if thats the case maybe just do the right thing and give the bike to whoever is supposed to have it.

The bike was inclued in the bankruptcy back in 2002. The lien holder never requested it back til this day. I guess they don't want it. It's a 2000 DRZ400S. I tried calling the bank to get them to let me pay it off and they can not even fing the original loanm it's been too long and they wrote the whole thing off.

Yeah, I will sell it. It's still a virgin. It has only 1,100 miles on it!! I thought about converting it to a Motrd, but don't have the cash for that. Make me an offer I can,t resist. It's the "S" model and was rode mainly on the stret.

NADA has it at $2,040. I'd say it's clean w/ only 1,100 miles on it. I don't know how much it's worth w/o title?

I seen several on traderonline, most newer ones, 00 -02 seemed to be around 2000 to 2700, and 04-05 were 3200 06-07 were 4300-4500. I,m thinking about a grand with no title? what U think, obvioussly would be worth alot more with title where U could reg. without hassle

mechanics lien has limitations, technically mechanic can put lien on car to sell it and can only keep the amount of what he is owed and the rest has to go to the owner.
You could try calling DPS and explaining to them what happened and asking them what to do... you don't have to tell them your name just hear what they say.
If you are the last titled owner you could request a duplicate title, or ask the bank to... offer to pay them for it. who knows it might work.
