I think he will have kits beginning next year. If so, I will probably be building one of those bad boys. They have already announced that WERA will be doing a series for these next year as well. For the money I have invested in my current bike I could probably have 2 of these.

What do you think it would cost to build one? I've been wanting an RS125 (yes, even with the high maintenance costs ), but I'd seriously consider a 450 instead.

Well, depends what route you take I think but...

New Bike = $7000 MSRP + Conversion Kit

Used Bike = $2500 + Conversion Kit

This just estimating costs. Obviously you can haggle for your lowest prices for the bike. I would probably go used and have the motor rebuilt. Dirt bike motors are cheap to work on. If I could put one together for $5k I would own 2 right now and be getting ready to race WERA next year.

The best way I can think to compare it though is this. These dirt bikes are every where and the parts for the conversion are standard production parts that are every where. Compared to the hard to find GP stuff. Simple supply and demand should dictate these to be more affordable. Getting a tank seems to be the trick.

If you did your own build up, seems like it could be very affordable if you have basic fabrication skills. You could find an 2-stroke frame or even a sv-650 frame maybe? SV frame would be a bit on the heay side, but would work.

However, Roland Sands' kits would be a bit pricey I'm guessing. Probably upwards of $7 or $8K...

I am hoping he has different level kits. Most of us could build one of these with just a few of his specialty parts, like the tank...
