i cheated death today...

where do i start, i was on my way to meet the guys somewhere in katy to go to fayetteville... i* was going on I10 west, a place where there is 3 narrow lanes and concrete on both sides... i was driving in the left most lane and the next thing i know is a big dog in the middle of the lane, i couldnt change lane to the right cause the dog wanted to head that way
and it happend so fast...so i grabbed on the breaks and stopped 5 feet from the dog... the next thing i know is an SUV hit me from the back i almost lost control of the bike but in a miricale i managed to keep it straight, he pushed me about 25 feet and i didnt go down... he told me that when he hit me that* my read tire lifted about 50 inches. The dude was a popo surprisingly when the other popo showed up no report was filled* :dontknow: lets see what will happen with his insurance... but i feel blessed for not going down in that tight place i would have got run over...

Re: i cheated death today...

Woah dude... glad you're ok, that could have been REAL bad. Did you get the officers name who came to the scene? (not the one who hit you) Cause I'd be filing formal complaints against him.

BTW... why didn't you swerve around the dog?

Sounds like a thing LOTS of new riders do, TARGET FIXATION.

Re: i cheated death today...

i couldnt swerve because of cars in the second lane, it happend within 2 seconds and the dog was about to run to the other lane so i had to either run the dog (it wasnt small) or try to stop... oh well im glad i didnt go down it would have been real ugly...

If someone is at fault, i'm like 99% sure you have to have a police report in order for to get claimed... but who knows they might have passed a law that allows ppl to get fckd over.

sorry but wrong...

a police report can substantiate a claim...not having one becomes an issue of what the insurance companies believe or are willing to deal with.

thats why you should;

1. carry a disposable camera
2. make notes of the accident (date, time, weather conditions, people involved, location, etc.)
3. check identification of all parties involved

in other words, accident kit.

Good that you are okay...but I woulda clipped the dog.

Re: i cheated death today...

Yea, there are many a thing we can sit here and monday morning quarterback about. I almost had the same thing happen to me about a year after I started riding on the street, but I was on a cruiser that can't stop like a sportbike, so I layed on the horn, and the dog frickin LEAPT like 4ft to the right, and into the slow lane, where he got clobbered by a delivery truck :laughing6:. Funny now, but scared the out of me then.

Anything smaller than a deer, if I can't swerve, then I want to hit it head on. Best thing is Porschito's ok

A accident kit stays with the bike right next to my manual and toolkit. Sometimes I use a cheap digital camera instead of a disposable, and if I'm ever out riding and see a nice sunset, then I have my camera with me for that too.

yes be sure to get a police report. i got t-boned on kirby, didn't get a report and lost any chance of filing a claim, because the guy told his insurance it was my fault. get a report, tomorrow morning !

Re: i cheated death today...

You're lucky to be alive. Ya know, you could've gotten a ticket for stopping on the freeway. The rule is you can't cause an accident to avoid another, ie: faulty evasive action. AND having an accident written up and sent to the state doesn't exactly help for later insurance premiums. I guarantee that you'll be shown partially at fault. DON'T GET ME WRONG!...I'm not siding with the "PO-PO". I'm just saying to look at the big picture here. If the PO-PO that hit you was accomodating and you guys exchanged insurance, I wouldn't worry too much. How was his attitude at the scene? Did you ask the other Officer for an accident report? Did you get ALL contact information for the guy that hit you? If so, I would give him a call and see what you guys can work out to get your bike fixed.
