ninja 250 motor noise

hey guys my wife rides a 03 ninja 250 8700 miles are those little motors always noisy ticky sounding we run kawa oil in it 20-50 and i change it every 2500-3000 miles

i will bring it buy it might be next weekend i have to work this sat.
the bike runs great i ran it around the block tonight i never have had the valves adj. , and she runs the out of it

Yep, turn the two 8 mm nuts on the tensioner out 2-3 turns, then turn them tight. This will manually tension using the auto tensioner. If it quets up a lot, it is the tensioner for sure, a common weak spot on the model. If you want instructions on how to clean it and check the function, let me know and I'll send you the document I pulled from Ninja250.org Chances are it's the tensioner, not the valves.

But at 8700 miles I'd just let Patrick give it a once over, and adjust the valves if needed.

My 500 has always ticked a lot and I run pure synthetic and keep the valves perfect. I now have 15,000 miles on it and no problems, even at redline all the time.

Ill have to second the fact that the 250 engine just ticks alot. I found running Shell Rotella T (nonsynthetic) oil helps quiet the noise versus some other oils. Its worth a try.

You can get a gallon @ walmart for some ridiculous price like 8 bucks
