wireless internet, not the internet you get through your normal phone service.

What really is the difference. When I get on the internet on my phone I can't tell the difference between the phone and my home comp. Except the size of course.

most pages on a cell phone will be missing images or reformatted all together.

Correct me if I'm wrong but... cell service is almost like your phone is calling an internet server, whereas wifi is getting internet service just from a wireless router(i.e. starbucks, or airport).

LMAO... that second video is too funny!!!

Depending on the phone's capabilities, the usual internet service that cell phones offer is through "WAP" pages that companies provide so that they load faster and use less bandwidth (images use a few kilobytes, each; big megapixel camera images use a few megabytes each -- and charges are usually done per kilobyte -- at 10 cents per k, a 1 Megapixel camera image costs... 100$ (unless I slipped a zero in my math)).

WiFi, being wireless internet through a wireless transmitting router (starbucks, airports, etc), access the internet through the router and not the "WAP" pages nor the cell phone company.

The best cell phone breakthrough went kind of unseen. One cell phone company put out a phone that switches to WiFi and uses the internet to place the calls (and switches back to the cell network when the WiFi is out of range).

On any PDA device or cell phone that uses Windows Mobile, there is likely a version of Opera (pay the $20, it is worth it) that can be downloaded for viewing all web pages.

Admittedly, Opera and devices it runs on do not have the fancy touch screen nor the visual voice mail. However, they do (or can) perform just about every other function that the iPhone has. Mine even has the nice memory chips that can be swapped out.

Not dissing the iPhone; but I wasn't going to pay $600 when it came out for stuff my phone already does -- and lose the games on my current phone. When games and other software come out for it and as the price will continue to go down, I'll reconsider the iPhone. For now, I'm happy enough with what I have -- the best upgrade for myself (that I didn't make) was a Nokia pseudo-flip to full keypad (I forgot the model number and they stopped making them :(

Oh, for cell phones and devices, always always wait -- at least until the bugs are worked out. The original RAZR was something like 300-500 when it came out and now they are practically free.

As for bugs.... The iPhone does have a few. From what I was reading, unless you turn it off, it will continually send requests every 30 or 60 min to retrieve information. One guy went overseas and was smacked with the fees from that.

I've also heard that they are not allowed on some WiFi networks due to security issues. I can't say which ones (I don't want to give security friends more headaches than they already have); however, the friend I was talking to said it was giving him fits because it was a huge security issue -- I'm not sure what issues, as he did not elaborate. I can easily imagine, though, since it is an open enough WiFi send/receive device attempting to gain access to a WiFi broadcasting source.

I do like the iPhone. There is just something Sexay about it!
For general phone, general music listeners and general internet users, it is a great device.

For MP3 collectors, like myself, I'm tempted to go for the 160G video iPod that was released! I can't even imagine being limited to the iPhone and iTouch at 8G and 16G. As an ex-college-DJ and older person, I have an extensive music collection that takes at least 30G (probably more, I've just been a slacker and haven't ripped the last few years of music to mp3).

I wanted to go get an iphone when i heard about the price cut. however, then i stopped to reason for a while before taking then cash and going to the store. If apple reduced the price only 75 days after the release of its innovative iphone, then it will only be a matter of months before they upgrade the performance to say 16gb. The new upgraded iphone will likely retail for $399 just like the most capable current version. I have 30gb worth of music alone in my zune so I need a devise with a fair amount of hard drive.

I forgot to mention that unlocking the iphone is fairly simple. just use a needdle and insert it in the tiny orifice on the top of the iphone, apply some pressure, and the service card will come out. I did this with a friends iphone and it works.
Once the card is out, you can use the iphone as a wi-fi only devise and an ipod. If you can connect to wi-fi you can make phone calls through skype for a small fee.

i got mine the first weekend. i have "unshackled" it not unlocked it, because i was already with at&T. Plus good ole money bags Mr. Jobs gave me a free $100 gift cert to the apple store... I was one of the few that wasnt mad that the price got cut. I am an early adopter (read: tech ) so i expected it to drop before xmas, maybe not this soon but whatever.

btw i love it. Works perfectly for everything i need it for.
