Still no power, so no idea when I can reschedule this thing....

Our house keeper sent this email yesterday, which shows how hairy it actually was down there. Please no comments about grammar or diction...she is the only house keeper I know of that I can email from the Peninsula.

From Jeanne:

Humberto Part 1:

Hi Peter and Nancy, sorry it took so long to check in.
Yes, this one snuck in fast. We stayed of course as it was ONLY a Tropical Storm. Well, it hit about 1:00 am and over by 2:00 am but what a mess.
The kitchen ceiling caved in first. We moved the stove as I have a glass top and didn't want anything to fall and break it. We moved it in the living room by the bathroom door.
Then we could hear the siding being ripped off the house on the North side between the two houses. When we heard it hit the ground, I told Bill, the only thing between us and the storm is the insulation and the sheet rock. Just about that time the wall started to break at a seam in the sheet rock. Bill held the sheet rock and I rapidly took the wires loose on the big TV. Of course they were giving me a problem, but I finally got it loose. I held the sheet rock and Bill picked up the TV and moved it on the stove. I let go and it was all over.......... A 12 foot hole in the North side, with the water blowing in sideways.
We covered the TV and computer and stove and nothing else we could do except go to the South bedroom which we thought was the safest as the storm was coming in from the North. The East wall of the bedroom started breathing in and out and I thought for sure it was gone, but finally it let up and the sheet rock was all we lost there. It was pretty scary but we are both safe. Allen had to put 3 foot bolts on the East and West sides to pull all the walls back together. The back house faired well, a couple shingles, but she said the East wall window was looking like it was trying to get sucked out, but stayed in place. No power for several days, but the weather was nice at night. Did a lot of BBQ-ing. Big store had generator so we could buy groceries and gas. Red Cross came over with water and ice and a couple hot meals so we survived another one...Two friends loaned us generators, so both houses had some power. I even washed 8 loads of laundry and hung them out to dry. I bet people thought I was crazy, but lost nothing due to mildew etc. We sucked the water (borrowed wet vac) out of the carpet and we pulled it up and took the padding out and placed it on the grass to dry out. Worked well......Pretty wore out and still a long way to go to clean up the inside.....

Not a good day for the folks down there!

I didn't notice this was moved back again until today. I just scheduled off work and me and my roommates and friends all just made the plans to be there. Oh well, if anyone is down that way I will be there Fri-Sun. Peter, if you need me to I can go by your place and take pics/whatever. Or if you're there and you need any help with anything big me and my buddies could swing by and lend some hands. You have my cell.
