They originally thought it was cell phones but it is not.

By the way, if there is no picture of a hand or anything, still always touch the metal pole (or touch anything else metal) before getting back to your pump nozzle.

You are welcome.

I have a habit of climbing back in my truck and listening to music while pumping gas and I definitely scoot out because it is higher due to it being a truck. I actually got zapped once when touching metal, hate to have seen what had happened if I had just reached for the nozzle.

I have that habit to. For safety, but I especially climb back in my jeep in the winter time :/:

In fact, friction was created by the driver scooting in and out of the seat while waiting for the pump to finish, creating static and igniting the gas when getting close enough to the fumes of the gas.

Happens most likely to women because they sit in the car often due to security issues.

I always touch the little hand they have taped up on the pole that takes your static.

and that thing has been told zillion times and women keep doing it

thats why the answer NO BRAINS LMAO

did not read all the replies but yes getting in and out of the car, and see how many times she created friction by constantly fixing her hair, pants, AND MOST OF ALL those itchy clothes women like to wear, that sweater of hers is what cause it.

It is the clothes you wear that hold the static electricity. This will almost never happen to a guy unless he is a little, gay and wears that girly .

interesting.....

i swear in the winter the cooler air with low humity and its friction against the vehicle often causes static electricity....

well yes that does alot, even more so when people wear certain types of clothes.

she had already touched the car and pump so the static from the car would have been gone, she created more when she got in and out and rubbing her clothes then she touched the pump again.
