You can get a sweet DLP in the range of above 50 inches for what you are looking to spend. So, it really depends on what size TV you want because you are open to any of the large formats.

my dad has a samsung DLP projector that projects onto a wall about 15 feet away, makes about a 120" screen, Really clear. the projector now is about $1000 and the screen with a gain of 1 was about $300. you can get screen with a different gain kinda like a stereo amp, to make the picture brighter if it'll be in a not so dark room. i love the projectors, for the amount of space, you can't beat it

Just got a 32 inch Samsung HD TV for $900 at Circuit City. $1500 will get you everything except the top of the line. Go to their web site for anyother retailer's web site for all the information you need.

well i have a fairly extensive movie collection and alot are in wide screeen so on the bigger side would be good.

id love to get a projector but with limited space in my room i would be hard pressed for a big viewing area.

If you have limited space I would shy away from the standard projection screens. If you have 12+ feet the DLP proj. look good. If you aren't really picky, the LCD projections are not that bad and are fairly cheep. Check craigslist, I see them on there all the time new for around the 1k-1200 range

For $1500 you are either going to sacrafice some picture, or size. You just have to figure out what is more important and to what extent. LCD projection may be a little less than DLP, but the picture isn't bad at all. You could get a 55-60" LCD projection, or like a 40-50" DLP. And I am only considering the good brands. Do some research. Sony, Mitsu, and JVC seem to be the best from what I have read.

I bought a Sony WEGA 55" LCD. It cost me about twice your budget but it is the best TV I have seen. It allows me to hook everything up in 1080P for cable, movies, Xbox 360, and even my home computer for web surfing from the couch.
You should look into it before you buy...
