I'll steal a phrase from No Mercy: "that's a horrible idea!" How long has she been a housecat? Are there a lot of strays in your neighborhood? She won't know to avoid cars. And unwanted kittens = Get her some toys or a kitty friend perhaps? Do you live in a super small place? Unless she's been outside before, I doubt she's pining for the great outdoors.

do what I do, balcony only!!!
think about watching your cat get hit by a truck, and then ask yourself if you want your beloved cat to be an outside cat. or what if some crazy cat lady comes by and steals him/her?

If the kitty is not spayed, she will get pregnant. Besides, spayed kitties make better and healthier pets.

Domesticated housecats really shouldn't be outside. Somewhere I heard that they can actually be a threat to the bird population. She'll be fine inside. They aren't called apartment tigers for nothing.

I let mine out supervised in the courtyard behind my apartment (bottom floor)but only because they come back running when I call them; otherwise, I bring them a bit of grass inside to chew on and they have to watch the great outdoors from the window.

If your kitty is bored, get lots of toys and maybe a playmate. Cats can do pretty well on their own though as long as you pay attention to them when you are there.

Spay the poor thing and get her out of her and your misery.

Only calms them in regards to trying to get outside and have a Tomcat rape them.

My female, whom I had since 3 weeks old, is 11 years old now and got spayed as soon as the vet allowed it (probably 4 - 6 mo of age) and she still plays every day and every morning, she runs through the house and is very active. She also still catches birds or lizzars whenever I do let her go outside (again, supervised!).

Hey, another option to letting her roam, leash train her and take her out. I tried it with mine but she made saltos and flipped and whatnot. She even came out of her collar. I would like to try it again with a body harness though.

Be carefull letting your cat out. My cat was an indoor/outdoor cat until he slipped coming over the fence and his leg got caught in between the slats. Judging by what was left of his leg on the other side of the fence it is safe to say he was being chased by something. I found him the next morning hanging (on the inside of the fence) by his leg, very weak and very cold. I pried the fence slats apart and took him to the vet right away.

He is now a happy and healthy tri-pod, his "knee" was destroyed so his leg was amputated at the hip.

He is an indoor cat now.

I could tell he was going crazy by himself so I got him a friend from one of the adopt a cat programs. They are both very happy playing together.

You'd figure it woulnd't be that difficult, but NOOOOooo... won't even give it a glance. Tear back and forth across the house, and trying to play with the darn toilet.

I've always let my cats go outside. IMO they make better pets when they have freedom. Of course, I don't live in an apt and I have a doggie door so the cats can come and go as they please. Plus, no kitty litter to clean .

My current cat was confined for 4 - 5 months when I first brought him home because he was sick. But once he was better he adapted to the outdoors very well. He's 5 years old now and he never ventures very far away.

Make sure you spay and keep up with her shots. Outdoor kitties are more likely to get feline leukemia.
