I thought about the whole whole hypermotard thing but I think if I was honest with myself I'd have two bikes:
a dual sport and a sport tourer.
something like a honda vfour and a kawasaki parallel twin.

my friend just bought the DRZ400SM and I've ridden it. I'm just not into it for the street.

Although I really like the Supermotard, it's less than 3.5 gallon fuel tank makes it a bike I wouldn't want to take to the Hill Country.
The Aprilia is nicer, more power, better ergos etc., BUT it really could lose a little weight IMO.

As stated, the Ducati with the 1100 cc engine is much bigger.

I've seen both of them and they both are beautiful. I think I'll take both as well.

oh I love they way they look and I like watching videos of people sliding them, but how many have actually ridden them? its completey different than any other bike I've ever ridden... and since its on asphalt its a lot different than dirt bikes too. Maybe I'd get used to it if I had one, but just from riding my friends I dont think I would like it, especially not for rides longer than an hour. that narrow seat is great for transferring your weight but it hurts my .
