I let a good friend take over payments on a bike and it worked out fine. But I'd known him for years and he was a groomsman in my wedding.

But to let a stranger make payments - YIKES!!!

it was probably fake name, prepay gas station cell phone so the guy will be nearly untraceable

IF i were to do that [which I never would] I would want a copy of his SS card, DL, Iinsurance card, pay stub, pics of him and whatever vehicle he was driving, etc...
