ya the bike quit working now, i think it has something to do with the air filter ripping off #1, plus we rode it 65 miles about after the wreck!

hahah I said in the morning that we'll be calling you WHEN someone crashes.

It happened to my group a few years back.

We used to roll 15 - 20 deep and at a pace that was admittedly less than prudent. We did it for almost 5 years.

Eventually it caught up to us;

Too many riders with too wide a spectrum of skills. We'd have "the speech" about ride your own ride, etc., but it didn't seem to matter to some.

We went 22 weeks in a row with someone going down every weekend.
The police were starting to catch on as well because of the downed riders.

End result: we shut it down, changed routes and meeting spot, and reduced the number of riders.

Nowadays we run 3 - 6 riders, a fast but manageable pace, and we seldom have any issues with the law, and most importantly, everyone comes home the way they left.

While I do miss the big rides at times and the varied group they bring, I don't miss the wrecks or the police drama.

You all be careful out there.

Groups should be no larger than 10 folks. When the TSBA has groups that large, they also split it up. Most folks do it that way.

I prefer to ride in groups of 3 - 7. It just makes things so much more enjoyable.

Thanks RobBut I know U,r just trying to make me feel better Anyway I agree it should be smaller and by invite only, nothing personal, or we could split it up into a couple of groups, maybe one a little more conservative than the other, just a thought

not saying that to be nice you got alot more experience than most if not all of us.. That has to account for something

Experience? Is that a Nice way of saying I,m old lol, I had a close call with the guy on the zx14, I was near the back and was passing several guys, when he started to swerve back and forth like warming tires but was taking up all of both lanes, and the closing speed was a little high, fortunately I hammered the brakes and slowed enuf for him to start going back right and he left me about a foot, thats all I needed to get by, very fortunate, would have been real bad, I,m sure I spooked him, passing so close at that speed, he must not have checked his mirrors before swerving, I always check mine before pulling out to pass or anything, we talked after and it spooked both of us I,m sure, but all was fine, no harm, sorry I dont remember U,r name , he was on the white 14

+the foot print (as you've said before) you leave with 15-20 or more riders will attract alot of attention esp when running tripples. We had a group which a few here were part of that used to run the forest etc.. at speeds that were (for lack of better word) insane. When the cops started showing up and knowing who we were we called it a quits. + our almighty leader going down didn;t help either. I miss the rides but no the danger.

I don't like public rides....I'm gonna miss the old SMR.....it has become way too public.... thus, my ride yesterday was by PM only and we had only 5 riders....I like it that way.

I think if you are going to take that large a group, the speed and rules need to change a bit. I read a lot about passing in this thread, that usually is indicative of a too large speed/knowledge differential in the group.

Plus I tell people with me not to pass, just chill till the next stop and we will rearrange to suit.

I like to keep to smaller groups myself, and not "televise" to the world.
