That's one thing I was thinking too. LOL, except it's more like why are you spending $4 grand on wheels?

Yep, tough call. There's always the argument that you take responsibility for knowing what you're selling, but yep good karma for the guy who couldn't pull the trigger...

I saw the story the other day, very tough call. I think I would have offered more money after explaining to them that they were worth more than 40 bucks.

I'd have done the same thing unless they had somehow wronged me before.

A guilty conscience can be a . lol

Then again, it's a garage sale. You can buy clothes and other for pennies on the dollar. Hmmm.

No, no.. At least people usually know what they are selling for dirt cheap..

you conscience... you..

But yeah, that was very nice of the RC51 guy. The son can thank him when he returns from serving overseas.
I agree what are they selling off his stuff for anyway. I think I would have asked if they had asked their son and if yes I would have bought for 40. If no I would have told them what they were worth.

edit they are worth nothing to a guy without a bike.

I would have explained it to them, because that is who I am. Then threw $40 on the table and ran

A guy was walking w/ his wife around the neighborhood and saw a garage sale and an older couple's house. He remarked to his wife that he remembered a younger guy (the couple's son) w/ a sportbike who lived there at one time so he and his wife stop in to see if perhaps he might have left some things worth buying. Perhaps some tools, tank bag, gear, etc. RC51 guy sees the old lady roll out two motorcycle wheels onto the lawn. He walks up and low and behold...BST Carbon Fiber wheels! (MSRP worth over $4K) RC51 Guy doesn't say anything and watches old lady stick a $40 price tag for both wheels. He asks her about them and she says they seem like plastic so they can't be worth much, right? She goes on to say that her son sold his bike because he is serving overseas in Iraq.:/:

Question is, what would you do?

Well, RC51 guy told her not to sell them and he would be right back. He proceeded to run home and print off documentation/pricing for the wheels and gave it to them. The old couple was extremely grateful that they were not taken advantage of. Could you do it? Could you do the right thing? I could not imagine that guy coming home to find out that his wheels were given away for pretty much nothing. Nice to know there are some people around that would do the right thing.
the pll who helped the couple will be blessed .. for doing the right thing good for them!! and i would have done the same..

Yeah, but maybe he kept them for a reason. Once a motorcyclist, always a motorcyclist. I would bet he's looking forward to his next bike, and saved those wheels for the track.

I HAVE A COMPLETE DISREGARD FOR ETHICS AND I TRULY DON'T CARE WHAT OTHERS MIGHT THINK. I WOULD'VE TAKEN THEM FOR $40, PERHAPS THAT WILL TEACH THEM TO MAKE SOME REASEARCH BEFORE SELLING ANYTHING THEY GET THEIR HANDS ON. HOW DO YOU THINK ANTIQUES HUNTERS MAKE THEIR FORTUNES? CERTAINLY NOT BY GOING AROUND TELLING FOOLISH PEOPLE HOW MUCH THEIR POSSESIONS ARE TRULY WORTH.

Man, you guys are tough! I'm just thinking that this guy is over in Iraq, fighting the good fight . He's watching his buddies get shot at, wounded, even killed... knowing that it could be him next. He probably had little notice to ship out fast, and is looking forward to coming home to his life as he knew it before he left. I know I've got prized posessions I will never want to let go, and maybe these wheels could be one of his. If they were, I'd want to come home and see the things I left behind are still there, especially after going through war, and serving my Country.

He might not even make it back and carbon fiber gets deteriorated over time. That was rather cold blooded,+1 for soldiers fighting in iraq... but still doesn't change anything. I would've done the same with jesus.

Well, considering what I know, I would have politely moved away while thinking "yeah right, like I'm gonna spend $40 on plastic wheels."

"what a deal", i'd say as i gave them $40. What do ya'll consider the "right thing"? If you bought a bike from a guy that was selling his bike $512.52 below blue book price would you say, "well that bike is worth $512.52 more than what you are asking... I'll give you what the blue book price is and not what you are asking."? Besides, that kid isn't fighting for you. He's fighting because they told him to and they pay him. Would you cut me a break because i help find oil for the united states? Prolly not. Might be a little rough, but it's real.

I'd buy the wheels and sell them. I'm thankful for what others do so we don't have to, but If I went to war and left anything behind, I would have prepared myself enough to be ok with not seeing any of my things anymore and I would be happy to be home, not worring about some wheels. So capitalizm wins and I would prob. kick back some cash to the old farts for hookin it up. and they would be happy for seeing an extra grand show up one day, as I pocket the other $2960. Ive been phucked over enough in my life and everyweek I try to do a good dead and wheres my payoff??? sometimes you have to accept that it is you getting lucky for once and just run with it.
