not having rear brakes on the bike is not a life threatening issue. i can't even remember the last time i seriously needed my rear brake.

i only use the rear brake for one purpose....to keep the bike from moving at a stop so i don't have to hold the front brakes.

the front has plenty of braking power then you will ever need. just apply it smoothly and gradually.

you may want to cosider PATRICKS at Motocycles Unlimited noobs class. Not sure if he talks about this but you sure need some bike knowledge that can help you.
