Check the manufacturers rated towing capacity. The 5 speed F-150 was substantially lower than the auto in my case. They dropped in a car gearbox to get the lowest possible price so the dealers can advertise "Full size as low as $10,999!" The F-250 and above had real truck transmissions.

i would get a auto hands down cause manual takes to much effort to drive. I'm lazy like that.

auto is nice in traffic
but nothin beats the gas mileage and the feel of a 5/6spd.

Steve O,

I always drove standards. Hated automatics. My Titan changed that. With 5 speeds and plenty of power, and a much smarter tranny it drives almost as well as if it were a stick. The electric toggle shift helps too as it will hold any gear you stick it in.

My wife has driven suburbans for 5 years. They work just fine with an auto.

Come to think of it, I don't think I would like having a manual in any full size truck or SUV. They are really great in sports cars where the control is an advantage, but in a big truck, they will slow you down.

In any kind of working vehicle/truck - automatic - hands down. If you want to play - by what you like.
