50 motor knocking

i just picked up an 03 xr50, and in first the motor seems to knocking, like there is a constant clicking in first gear but it goes away in 2nd and 3rd. does anybody know if that is normal and if not, how to fix it? and advice would be appreciated.

oh and is there anybody that ride 50s in the sugar land area/sw area?

would a knock off cap work fine? because right now, the motor is jumping (forgot the term - writer's block) and they guy i purchase the bike from said that the spark plug cap was the thing that i needed to replace to get running properly again.
