A thought

so...I just had an Idea, and forgive me if this already exists...but it'd be pretty slick if we had a tool where a user could enter a zip code and find riders in their area...if its already there let me know

I was thinking of having different chapters as well, but since we are all still so close I don't know how well it would work. We'd have to have it more specific that SE NW etc etc, or else everyone would just be NW or vice versa. It works better on forums that cater to people all over the nation so that it is a broad chapter. I have seen your map idea done before though, here is a basic version of that, I've seen much more glamorous ones though. This is the one my bronco chapter uses:

how so? If it's just your zip code...

, most people already have their zip code/location under their avatar. I don't see how that's much help to thieves. Being seen on the road on your bike is more dangerous, all it takes is a plate number.

yeah i thought some of you would say it sounds dangerous...but its just a zip code so w/e...actually, the chapter idea would be cool...not really CHAPTERs though...maybe if there were sub-forums in the events section for NW, SW, SE, and NW...but seriously though Rob, I bet the thieves like knowing the CITY you live in more than they would like the zip...

^^^^^^I know thats what made me think about this in the first place...you NW sider's have all the fun...Im a busy man and my time is valueable so its pretty hard for me to get to the NW side on a wkday

maybe do a map where we can find some members in houston without specific zip codes or addy's.

i wonder if we can search through members using only their location found in the users profile?

A found this on a Kawasaki forum site. I thought it was pretty neat but since it's a national site it was kind of useless. But i think it would be a great idea for this site.

http://www.frappr.com/kawasakiownersclub

It's the member's map on this site:

And each member would have to join, so if someone didn't want to be on the map then they wouldn't join.

solves the problem with getting addresses and zip codes from profiles.

theres lots of ways to do this, like google mash-ups etc, that can be embedded in the site etc.....

I think its an ok idea as long as it doesnt get very detailed............nothing more than cities......Sugarland, Webster, League city, etc.....and a nice legal disclaimer before allowing anyone to add their name.....
