For anyone that uses nitrous....

Got this off of another forum I frequent thought yall might wanna see it....
Quote:
Rodneys NOS nitrous bottle exploded while sitting on the ground beside his bike with him standing right next to it. Luckily the bottle blew into the bike, knocking the megaphone off the sidewinder and destroying it. The pop off valve didn't blow and is still in tact. The bottle was not in the sun, it was under a canopy with fans blowing. Rodney got off with a very sore leg. He said it sounded like a cannon! DJ is going to post the pictures for me.
Can't figure out how to move the pics to here cause they are too big but here is the link to see them....

Like the guy said it was a powdercoated ... nitrous bottles the temp for powdercoating weakens the bottle, and there had been some failures.

DO NOT GET YOUR Nitrous bottles powder coated

Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength-

I have two sneaky petes on my chopper and I don't use them anymore now just for looks. Blew out the head gaskets which cost me money to get fixed. I don't like spending money on repairs. I would fill them again for a race but not just for the rush of the button push. Got a sport bike for a speed rush anyway.

I have a highly tuned 117 s&s with only 25hp pill and it still damaged my head gaskets plus broke two drive belts(I know I should have got a chain stupid harley belts).

Bikes love the stuff, just gotta spray the right amount with the right tune. Too much or wrong tune means your gonna be spendin some money. O and don't worry bout your bottle lookin good, save the powdercoat for somethin else.

dude where do you get your info from?

disks burst at 3000psi, 2500 on the 1lb bottles. Small bottles bust the disks all the time, they dont have the expansion room of the larger bottles. Running pressure is 950-1050. Any bottle exposed to temps over 350 should not be used. Most bottles are powder coated from the factory.

the head gaskets being out w/ a 25 pill means you must have some high compression already, or cheap head gaskets.
a 25 pill should have made your motor very happy. If it would handle the extra cylinder pressure, then start tuning with more nx and appropriate fuel amounts.
The blown head gaskets had nothing to do with tune, just to much cylinder pressure, if it is built well enough, it will handle more, but it is also good to have the head gaskets be the weak link, they are cheaper than tossing a piston obviously.
I have run 15# boost on mine, with triple stamped head gaskets.
