50 title

i am fixing to get a xr50 from a guy...but he says that he doesn't have a title...is the title really necessary/important like a car/motorcycle? if so, does it devalue the bike significantly?

Run the vin #. I dont have the title for my 50 and its not stolen. Make sure you get a copy of his license and a bill of sale saying "he" sold it to you.

just saying that he sold it to you and that he is the owner. Maybe ask him whom he bought it from aswell and if he has their info. As for gettin another title, I dunno but I wouldnt worry to much about it if your just gonna ride it off public streets.

yes it is necessary, especially if you go on any fiddy runs and you get caught by the cops, there is a possiblity that your bake could get impounded. If impounded and no title, then you would be fuked. you wouldnt be able to get the bike back!

As far as future difficulty selling it, think about it this way...

The future buyer is gonna have the same concerns you have, so a title will make a difference but for an off road bike is not necessarily a deal breaker.
It would be wise to at least check to see if it's stolen and would save problems later if you got a replacement title.

Depending on the deal you are getting & whether you trust the seller it may not be a big deal, if you dont trust the seller take the vin to a bike shop. Any loss in value on a non-titled mini bike is generally in the eye of the beholder & finding a non-titled fifty for sale is somewhat common, if your getting a good deal on it & it's untitled... Make sure its not stolen, buy it & dont worry 'bout the title... get a bill of sale from the seller (showing year, make & VIN).

So did ya ever get it? I don't have a title on mine. I checked to make sure it wasn't reported as stolen and made the poor guy selling it to me give me his DL. I wrote down his name, address and TX DL #. Even had him sign a contract. :laughing6

yeah I did the same thing when i sold the FZR. I have his social security number, DL #, 2 proven addresses, copies of proof of address, full name, cop of DL, AND it was a contract that was signed and notarized!! I financed him BTW, and he stopped paying me by the 2nd payment. I got $750.00 from a $3250.00 sale. What did I get in return? A wrecked bike and a warrant B/C the title was still in my name when he t-boned the car.
